Applications are invited from clinically qualified physicians with an interest in critical care, surgery or perioperative medicine, to join the Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine Research Group, within the William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Previous research experience would be an advantage. This three year fellowship is a full time research post which does not include clinical NHS duties. It will commence in August 2016 and the applicant will be located at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London.

The fellow will work as part of the Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine Research Group. This is led by Prof Rupert Pearse, and includes three senior lecturers, a research manager, four research nurses, two research assistants, two academic clinical lecturers, one academic clinical fellow, three research fellows, a statistician and a nurse researcher. We have excellent facilities supporting a large programme of public, charity and industry funded research. The group provides excellent opportunities for training and development. The post holder will benefit from clinical links within Barts Health NHS Trust which will facilitate recruitment of participants for studies, and provide a forum where the successful candidate can interact with other clinicians to maintain their clinical skills during their period in research.

This clinical research training fellowship will contribute to outstanding research to make surgery a safer treatment for ten million NHS patients each year. As part of this general body of work, we have opportunities to work on a number of forthcoming and ongoing projects which can be discussed to suit the interests of the successful applicant.

This is a full time fixed term post for 3 years. Salary will be in the range of £31,301 - £50,167 per annum plus London Allowance of £1,470 per annum. The maximum starting salary will be £35,952 per annum plus London Allowance of £1,470 per annum.
