The English Department seeks to make a 0.5 FTE Lecturer or Senior Lecturer appointment in Creative Writing with a specialism in Poetry; preference may be given to candidates who also have expertise in Creative Nonfiction and/or Writing for Stage or Screen. The post-holder will be a published poet with a growing or established international profile; they will undertake the normal teaching, research, and administrative duties expected of a member of the Department. In all areas they will be expected to show leadership appropriate to their position. The ability to teach at any level within the area of expertise, and across a range of other forms of writing at a more introductory level, is essential.

It is expected that the successful candidate will possess a PhD in English, Creative Writing or a related field (or equivalent).  At lecturer level an appropriate track record of high quality practise based research as well as an ability in developing research proposals and bidding for external research funding is required.  At senior lecturer level a proven track record of high quality research is essential as is evidence of proven ability in developing research proposals and bidding for and securing external funding.  In addition a record of mentoring and developing staff including the successful supervision of PhD students to completion is required. The post is 17.5 hours per week and permanent, starting from 1 September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. For appointment for the role of Lecturer the starting salary will be the QMUL minimum entry point for Lecturers (point 35; £42,433 per annum pro rata); for appointment for the role of Senior Lecturer the starting salary will be the QMUL minimum entry point for Senior Lecturers (point 45; £55,840 per annum pro rata).
