This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with approximately 70 academic staff and 45 postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1000 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 220 PhD students. Circa 40 administrative and technical staff support the staff and students. The staff and student body are international in make-up.
About the role
Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) are opening a Centre of Excellence in Organ-on-a-Chip (OOAC) research with our industrial partner. The Centre will offer a facility for use by OOAC researchers from across the UK, and also aspires to be the home to outstanding research activity in the field, driving forward the development of new OOAC technology and innovations.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to be involved in both operational management of the centre, and in the delivery of innovative research.
Research activity will initially focus on liver fibrosis, but there is significant opportunity to evolve and guide research in post, with a focus towards developing new project ideas and writing funding applications.
The post offers opportunities to gain skills in both facilities management and leading research direction, and may therefore suit individuals interested in lab management or focused towards future academic PI roles. Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant subject, outstanding project and time management skills, the ability to lead in the research process, and exceptional communication skills.
The post is a full time, fixed term appointment for 3 years and is available from May 2019, subject to confirmation of funding. It will report primarily to Professors Hazel Screen and Martin Knight, but will additionally report to, and interact directly with, individuals from our industrial collaborator.
Starting salary will be at Grade 4 £33,615 - £35,459 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
