Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant funded by the Economic and Research Council coordinated by Dr Holly Ryan (QMUL; Principal Investigator). The position is based at the Mile End campus of QMUL.

Post Information and Requirements

An opportunity has arisen for a part-time (0.4 FTE, 2 days a week) Post-Doctoral Research Assistant to work on the Economic and Research Council funded project, ‘The Art of International Friendship: Exploring Twinning in a Global Age’ (ES/R004137/1) which aims to shed light on the value of town twinning and sister city relationships in the 21st century. This project is led by Dr. Holly Eva Ryan at Queen Mary University of London.

The successful candidate will undertake a range of tasks which may include literature searches and reviews, transcription and translation. They will have a fluency in English and Spanish and ideally a working proficiency in at least one other language. The Post-Doctoral Research Assistant will work closely with the project lead in the co-creation and co-production of reports, workshops and/or exhibitions with other stakeholders. There may be opportunities for international travel, and there will be opportunities for the candidate to refine their qualitative research skills.

An interest in twinning, sister cities, municipal internationalism, translocalism and paradiplomacy is a must for this position. A secondary interest in the arts, sustainable development, solidarity movements and/or global education initiatives would also be desirable. 

This is a fixed term appointment until 31 March 2021 

Salary will be in the range of £31,054 – 33,615 per annum pro rata (Grade 4) inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days pro rata annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and an interest-free season ticket loan.
