The School of Business and Management (SBM) seeks to recruit an outstanding researcher and teacher to a lectureship in heritage management. School of Business and Management

The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years. We presently have around 85 academic staff, with more appointments in process. We have over 1100 undergraduate Business Studies students plus approximately 800 students taking business in combination with other degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have around 700 Masters Students and a well-established doctoral programme of around 60 doctoral students.

We are a distinctive School that takes a humanities and social science led approach to our scholarship. We are a large school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.

SBM recently re-committed to our core purpose, that is, to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We organise our activities thematically, cross-cutting traditional divisions between disciplinary departments.

Lecturer in Heritage Management

You will be able to demonstrate the capacity to research and publish at an internationally excellent level or higher (at least 3 in the recent REF) in the broad area of heritage management. You will lead and deliver QMUL’s contribution to a new MA in Heritage Management to be delivered jointly with Historic Royal Palaces, a programme designed to train the heritage leaders of the future in areas of heritage histories, theory and practice with the first intake of students beginning their studies in 2018.

You should have a completed doctorate (or have a doctorate under examination) by September 2018, in a relevant subject such as Heritage Studies, Heritage Management, Art/Architectural History, Archaeology, or British/British and European History. You should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of heritage management theory and practice, and a commitment to cross-disciplinary learning.

The new MA is a Faculty-wide initiative, and will offer students the opportunity to select modules and dissertation topics from across the spectrum of humanities and social sciences disciplines represented at Queen Mary. A significant element of the role will be supporting, coordinating and nurturing the collaborative partnership with Historic Royal Palaces. Candidates whose research profile fits more closely with that of other Schools within the Faculty may be offered the opportunity to situate their research activities within an alternative academic School. You are asked to highlight any experience of grant and contract research, particularly of projects that have demonstrable impacts beyond academia.

Starting salary will be in the range £40,865 - £50,881 per annum inclusive of London Allowance and include 30 days annual leave, USS pension scheme membership, and interest-free travel season ticket loan.
