Overview:

The School of Business and Management (SBM) seeks to recruit an outstanding researcher and academic leader in the area of Accounting. This post offers an opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of accounting research and teaching in a rapidly growing and distinctive management school.

The School of Business and Management (SBM) is a research-led School that takes a humanities and social science led approach to our scholarship. We are a non-departmentalised school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.

The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years. We presently have around 75 academic and 18 administrative staff, with more appointments in process. We have over 1,000 undergraduate business management students, plus approximately 800 students taking business in combination with other degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have around 450 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme of 50+ doctoral students.

SBM recently re-committed to our core purpose, that is, to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We organise our activities thematically, cross-cutting traditional divisions between disciplinary departments. Members of staff are typically members of one or more groups and centres in areas such as equality and diversity, globalisation, organisational history, business ecosystems, marketing as a social phenomenon, management and organisational learning, public policy and management, behavioural finance, development finance, governance and sustainability.

Applicants for the position of Professor in Accounting must have a research track record that is of an internationally excellent standard. The successful candidate will be able demonstrate a record of achievement commensurate with the seniority of the post through, for example, attracting research funding, leading research teams, shaping learned associations or journals, and/or demonstrating the impact of their research. While experience of academic leadership roles is desirable, a willingness to contribute to academic development in the School is essential. Applicants should demonstrate the capacity to teach and supervise effectively across our main undergraduate and postgraduate modules. Applicants will be expected to show how their research interests complement those within the School and how they can make a strategic contribution to the development of accounting programs within the accounting teaching group.

The post is full time and permanent. Starting salary will be competitive on QMUL’s professorial scale, and benefits include 30 days annual leave, USS pension scheme membership, and interest-free travel season ticket loan.
