About the Role

The Department of English in the School of English and Drama in Queen Mary’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks to appoint a full-time (1.0fte) Lecturer in Global Race Studies. We welcome applicants with expertise in one or more of the following (or in similar) fields, in any period from the early modern to the present:  the study of race and ethnicity in transnational and/or comparative contexts; Global Black Studies; Indigenous Studies; Critical Race Studies; Slavery and Abolition studies. The successful applicant will contribute to our thriving research culture as well as to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in English, with specific reference to supporting the global reach of our research.

About You

The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in English, or a related field, and must have a growing or established international research profile and substantial plans for future research and leadership. They will join a Department committed to an interdisciplinary and global approach to Anglophone literary studies, and with significant expertise in critical theory, cultural studies, and postcolonial and world literatures. Experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels in large and small group settings is an essential requirement. The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time and permanent with an expected start date of 1 September 2021. The starting salary will be Academic and Education Grade 5 from point 35 to 42 at £42,433 to £51,395 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
