About the Role
The Head of Admissions is responsible for leadership and management of a 50 strong central Admissions team that handles around 100,000 applications per year to a wide range of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Working collaboratively with the Deputy Academic Registrar (Admissions) and senior staff across Professional Services, the post-holder develops and implements strategic, tactical and operational plans that support Queen Mary to meet its ambitious student recruitment objectives. The post-holder is responsible for delivery of a high quality, customer-focused admissions service to enquirers, applicants, advisers and staff, as well as ensuring that policies, systems and processes are in place to secure legal and regulatory compliance.
You will be a higher education admissions professional with recent extensive experience of managing a substantial central admissions function in a UK university, including leading and motivating teams through periods of change. You will have experience of developing and implementing strategy and policy, and putting in place annual operating plans that assess and mitigate risks to the delivery of an efficient and effective admissions service. You will use your expert knowledge of the higher education admissions context, as well as excellent communication and relationship management skills to communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the University, influencing and negotiating effectively in a rapidly changing context. Most importantly, you will have an applicant-centred approach and demonstrate proven motivation to provide excellent customer service.
About the Department
The Admissions Office is a division of the Academic Registry and Council Secretariat. Our primary focus is to support Queen Mary to recruit students with the qualifications and potential to succeed to planned intake targets in line with the values and aims expressed in Queen Mary’s Strategy 2030. We handle around 100,000 applications per year, for the most part making centralised decisions on behalf of Schools and Institutes across our three Faculties. Working together with academic and Professional Services colleagues, we aim to provide a high quality experience of applicants and staff who support the applicant journey. The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full time, permanent appointment. The starting salary will be Grade 7, in the range of £55,840 - £62,415 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
