Overview:

We are seeking to appoint 2 ambitious research-driven scientists at Lecturer level with a strong publication record as well as significant potential for funding. The successful candidates will be involved in teaching on our undergraduate or Masters programmes (teaching loads are as what would be expected in a research-led institution and reduced in the first two years following appointment).

We are particularly interested in applicants who apply behavioural, biological, genetic or neuroscientific approaches to investigating Mental Health and who could build on current research strengths in the department. You should have a PhD in Psychology and/or relevant professional qualification and/or equivalent professional experience. The successful candidates should also have substantial experience in teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level in large or small group settings with the demonstrable ability to deliver teaching at both levels.

Within Queen Mary University of London, the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences is a large and expanding academic unit, which provides a supportive and friendly environment and encourages interdisciplinary research. The Department of Biological and Experimental Psychology was founded in 2008 and currently comprises 17 permanent academics. We emphasise a modern interdisciplinary approach, at the interface between behavioural and biological aspects of psychology, including an emerging focus on biological and psychological roots of resilience and well-being.

At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable. Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.

We offer competitive salaries, access to the pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum, season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.

The posts are based at the Mile End Campus in London. These are full time, permanent appointments, with an expected start date of April 2021. The salary will be in Grade 5-6, in the range of £42,433 - £52,833 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr Isabelle Mareschal at i.mareschal@qmul.ac.uk
