About the Role  

As part of the Client Devices team, the Client Devices Officer role is responsible for providing reliable, responsive and secure enterprise level IT client device services to support Teaching and Research across the University.  Work in partnership with academic, professional and medical senior managers, staff and students, to establish and manage technical standards for client devices, including defining hardware catalogue (what computers, tablets and smartphones are available), operating systems (Windows, Linux, MacOS etc.) and the applications to run on those devices.


Additionally, the Client Devices Officer will provide and support new modern, robust, secure Remote and Cloud-based facilities/services to University staff and students including Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) and remote working support, utilising a multitude of technologies, giving technical support for these services as well as guidance to other ITS Colleagues in providing support for these services.


About You

We are seeking an experienced Client Devices Officer to work within the Infrastructure group to deliver a University-wide Client Devices service that is high quality, robust, resilient, responsive and secure. The successful candidate should be a self-motivated IT professional looking to work in a challenging and dynamic environment.

We are looking for practical experience and knowledge in the majority of the following:

•        Knowledge of endpoint mobility solutions to provide a seamless user experience across the desktop, laptop, tablets to smartphones

•        Good technical knowledge and practical experience in the following:

•        Microsoft Windows Operating System

•        Microsoft SCCM

•        Microsoft 365

•        Active Directory and/or Azure Active Directory

•        Experience in application packaging and delivery (e.g. ThinApp, App-V, MSI, AdminStudio)

•        Responsible for process and procedures for application packaging and documentation

•        Develop software installation scripts (use of PowerShell preferred) for complex software installations

•        Assist clients and business owners in advanced level software installation and troubleshooting

•        Good understanding of general protocols and standards TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS and other common network protocols.

•        Ability to work with both technical and non-technical people


The ideal candidate will also have experience of providing expert advice and third line support for Client Devices, along with the ability to acquire new expertise quickly including work collaboratively across team and departmental boundaries.

The post is a full time fixed-term appointment for 12 months. The salary is the Grade 5 scale and will be in the range of £38,084 - £44,807 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
