About the Role
We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the lab of Professor Áine McKnight in the Centre for Immunobiology at The Blizard Institute. This position will focus on the pathology, tropism and neutralisation of SARS-CoV-2 virus using a variety of immunological techniques as well as culture of live virus in Category 3 containment laboratories.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to learn new research methods and also apply their previous experience, which should cover a range of key techniques in virology (expertise in tissue culture, preparation of viral stocks including SARS-C0V-2, flow-cytometry, ELISA methods, immunofluorescence, molecular cloning). The successful candidate will also need to coordinate routinely with clinical colleagues in order to co-ordinate the collection and processing of patient samples. The person appointed will also be required to assist in other areas of research interest within the wider group, so an keenness to cooperate with others to advance a range of ongoing projects will be highly valued.

The Blizard Institute at Bart’s and The London School of Medicine (part of Queen Mary University of London) has an international reputation for excellence in fundamental, translational, and clinical research.
The McKnight lab studies host-pathogen interactions including HIV, HTLV-1 and SARS-CoV-2.

The post is based in the Blizard Institute, at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is a full time (35 hours per week), fixed-term appointment for 6 months with an immediate start date. The salary will be £34,220 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
