About the Role
The Youth Resilience Research Unit (YRRU; launching 1 March 2021) within the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health invites applications for a tenured position as Professor / Reader / Senior Lecturer in Youth Mental Health (appointment to be made depending on experience). The post is envisaged as a non-clinical one, however, one day of clinical work can be arranged with East London NHS Foundation Trust, if relevant.
As part of this role, the successful candidate will make significant, high quality contributions to research in youth mental health nationally and internationally, and actively contribute to knowledge creation and dissemination within the overall strategy of QMUL. This will include developing research proposals, seeking out research funding, and writing publications worthy of inclusion in the Research Excellence Framework. This role also includes postgraduate teaching and supervising PhD students. A key aspect of this role is collaboration with colleagues in research activities, both internally and externally with other Higher Education Institutes and/or non-academic organisations, including NHS Trusts and organisations in the community (e.g., arts organisations).
Applicants should be qualified and committed to developing and leading a new research unit in youth mental health (flexible age boundary range). The successful candidate should demonstrate a clear potential to enhance the scope of research in youth mental health, including a focus on how young people use resources outside health services to overcome mental distress.
Candidates will be expected to meet University of London standards for the academic level of the appointment and have national and international standing in a relevant research area, as established by outstanding contributions through publications, leading multi-disciplinary research, and teaching and administration.

The post is based at the Newham Centre for Mental Health in London. It is full time (37.5 hours per week), permanent appointment, with an expected start date of March 2021. The starting salary will be by negotiation within the range for Professor, Reader, or Senior Lecturer, depending on experience, and inclusive of London Allowance.
