About the Role

This post is to ensure that Centre of the Cell runs smoothly and delivers a high quality experience for visitors. The post holder will oversee and manage Centre of the Cell’s operations, governance and financial systems to ensure that the project complies with current legislation and operates safely and to a high standard. The post holder will play a key role in developing and managing the delivery of Centre of the Cell’s long-term sustainability plan and will also be responsible for managing a small team. The post holder will be responsible for reporting on financial and governance matters to the Blizard Institute and other appropriate departments.

About You

Centre of the Cell is seeking an exceptional individual to lead on their operations and finance at this exciting phase of the Centre’s development. We are seeking a flexible, ambitious, motivated and inspirational individual who has experience of developing and managing projects. We expect the successful applicant to have substantial management experience and to have managed budgets at a senior level. Experience in fundraising is desirable.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is the largest of seven Institutes within Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. The Institute comprises approximately 400 staff based in five academic centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute delivers excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

Centre of the Cell is the first science education centre in the world to be located within medical research laboratories. Centre of the Cell has visitors from school groups during term time and family groups during the school holidays. It also runs an outreach programme for schools, and a Youth Membership Scheme for young people aged 14 – 19. In early 2019, the Centre opened its second learning space, ‘Neuron Pod’, home to the Centre’s topic-led science shows and workshops. .

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment, with an expected start date in December 2020/January 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £38,084 - £44,807 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
