Applications are sought for an experienced Research Assistant to join the CRUK Grand Challenge team in order to use Imaging Mass Cytometry for analysis of cancer progression.This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the £16M inaugural Cancer Research UK Grand Challenge to create a ‘Google Earth’ view of tumours and help beat cancer sooner. The successful applicant will have significant research laboratory experience, knowledge and skills in tissue preparation for immunocytochemistry and immunofluorescence labelling and experience in microscopy. The research will be based in the Centre for Tumour Biology, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London.
Essential requirements for this post include a minimum of a Masters degree in a biological subject. A PhD in a relevant subject would be a benefit but is not essential in the case of adequate experience. Experience in mass cytometry (CyTOF) and the analysis of complex data sets, including programming knowledge such as R, Matlab and/or Python would be an advantage.
The post is full time and funded for 2 years. Starting salary will be in the range £31,613 - £40,194 per annum inclusive of London Allowance (depending on experience and qualifications). Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.
The Grand Challenge team is lead by Dr Josephine Bunch of The National Physical Laboratory - http://www.npl.co.uk/grandchallenge/team/ and is pursuing a multiscale (organ to organelle) and multi-omics approach with a range of mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) techniques, supported by Imaging Mass Cytometry.
