The Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology opened in May 2007 and is led by Professor Costantino Pitzalis. The Centre is focused on the development of innovative therapeutic and diagnostic approaches to inflammatory and degenerative arthropathies, including rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis. The emphasis is on translational research by combining strengths and expertise of basic and clinician scientists working together.  The Centre offers newly refurbished laboratories, cutting edge facilities and is located in the heart of the City of London in close proximity to the Barbican Arts and Music Centre. The Centre is integrated in the Musculoskeletal Clinical Academic Unit at Barts Health NHS Trust also directed by Professor Pitzalis, which includes in addition to Rheumatology, Orthopaedics and Sport and Exercise Medicine offering unique translational opportunities.

The primary role of the Clinical Trials Practitioner will be to work with the  Inflammatory Arthritis Centre Research Team at Mile End Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust to ensure the successful running of both hosted clinical studies/trials and coordinated investigator initiated studies/trials (commercial and non-commercial) by facilitating their set–up, maintenance, and co-ordination.  This is a patient focused role, and responsibilities will include identifying patients suitable for entry into clinical trials, organising patient assessments and visits, coordinating collection and preparation of biological samples and supporting patients throughout the delivery of their care on clinical trials.  The post-holder will also have administrative responsibilities including data entry, maintenance of patient records and creating and maintain Investigator Site Files.

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 12 months.  

Salary will be in the range of £27,742 - £34,220 per annum, depending on experience, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, a pension scheme, interest-free season ticket loan and family-friendly working.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
