Overview:

Queen Mary University of London is looking to appoint a Business Development Manager (KTP) to support Queen Mary researchers  in their  relationships with businesses.  The role will focus on the development and management of research partnerships through the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) programme a government-backed scheme that facilitates innovation in business. 

 

The primary role of the Business Development Manager (KTP) is to prospect proactively for new clients, initiate new relationships and turn this into increased KTP applications and active KTP projects.  In tandem the Business Development Manager (KTP) will support other industrial engagement activities to facilitate additional collaborative partnerships with businesses for the Faculty of Science & Engineering (S&E).  The Faculty provides research and teaching excellence across engineering, science and mathematics including Electronic Engineering, Computer ScienceMaterials Science, Biological and Chemical SciencesPhysics, Astronomy and Mathematical Sciences.

 

The role will require the post-holder to grow and retain existing business accounts with a focus on the KTP programme and to facilitate industrial engagement and lead generation for other knowledge exchange programs for the Faculty of S&E including industry sponsored studentships and the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF).   Reporting to the Senior Partnerships Manager (Science & Engineering), the post-holder will be part of an established Business and Partnerships Team of Queen Mary’s Research Services Directorate.  They will work closely with our academic community, providing a high level of client focus, to develop and maintain key partnerships and commercial opportunities. This will require the identification of business partners and funding opportunities; attending and organising relevant meetings and events; supporting high quality research bids and advising on opportunities to further develop research and Knowledge Exchange activities.

 

The successful candidate will have significant previous experience of the KTP programme, exceptional communication and relationship management skills, alongside a proactive, creative approach to resourcing academic research. Ideally, you will have experience of working at the interface between public and private sectors, gained through working in a similar role in a research intensive University or commercial environment. 

 

The post is full-time and permanent with a starting salary of £47,325 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

 

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
