Applicants are invited to apply for the above post within the Translational Cardiovascular Therapeutic group (Professor Ken Suzuki’s laboratory). The project, in which the post-holder will be engaged, is exciting cutting-edge translational research in regenerative medicine.

Professor Suzuki is a pioneering researcher in cell-based therapy for heart failure. His interdisciplinary team has continuously reported important original information in the relevant area. With the current British Heart Foundation Programme Grant, Professor Suzuki’s team has successfully developed an innovative bioengineering-aided mesenchymal stem cell therapy for heart failure. This novel therapy is now about to enter the first-in-human clinical trial. Following this success, he was awarded with a renewed 5-year Programme Grant, which aims to expand the indication of this advanced therapy, refine the technology and investigate the underpinning mechanism with original ideas. The post-holder will enjoy this challenging project of regenerative medicine in the internationally competitive laboratory.

The work will be based in the William Harvey Research Institute (Charterhouse Square Campus, London). This Institute has a strong record in preclinical and clinical therapeutic development and has recently made a large step forward in cardiovascular research with opening of the Heart Centre and NIHR Barts Biomedical Research Centre, and British Heart Foundation Accelerator Award. These offer highly supportive environment to the project.

The successful candidate should hold a postgraduate degree and/or relevant professional qualification (i.e. PhD, MD) in medicine, medical research or life science. Demonstrable experience in execution of medical research studies, including a publication record appropriate for their career stage, is also essential. Starting salary will be £34,220 per annum and inclusive of London Allowance.

The post is full-time position (100% FTE) for 5 years between 01/07/2020 and 30/06/2025 (fixed). Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
