Queen Mary is a world-leading university at the forefront of research and innovation, providing world-class education, across the disciplinary spectrum. We have a highly diverse student body for a Russell Group university, with 91 per cent of our students from a state school background; 60 per cent from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic groups; and 42 per cent are the first from their family to go into Higher Education. We truly provide world-class education and opportunities to all students who have the potential, irrespective of their background.
It is this diversity in our student profile, alongside our research excellence and our deep engagement with our local communities, that makes Queen Mary unique and such a special place to work and study. Our community numbers over 25,000 students and 4,500 staff across sites in central London as well as in China, Malta and Paris. In our recently launched 2030 strategy we have articulated our ambition to be the most inclusive university of its kind, anywhere.
We are now seeking to appoint a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to play a critical role in developing and being responsible for the financial strategy of the University. A member of the senior executive team, reporting to the President and Principal, the CFO is one of three senior members of the professional service leadership, in a newly established structure which will oversee a transformation to optimise infrastructure and service. Overseeing the financial, the strategic planning and strategy delivery teams, the CFO will play a central role in the implementation of Queen Mary’s strategy 2030. The CFO will be a key interface between the executive and the University’s governing body through its finance and investment committee and the main Council. Queen Mary has a turnover approaching £500 million.
You will be a self-motivated and energetic individual with experience of strategic leadership, financial management and service transformation across a large and complex organisation. You will demonstrate the capacity to translate your professional experience effectively into our world-leading academic environment. We are seeking a highly motivated professional who shares a deep commitment to our values and will be a positive catalyst for change. A professional accountancy qualification is essential.
