Overview:

Applications are invited for a full-time Research Technician post within the Institute of Dentistry at Bart’s and The London Medical School, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).  The position is within the internationally recognized Blizard Institute, which is the largest institute of Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry that bring together areas of modern biomedicine, with particular expertise in cell biology, genomics, immunology, neuroscience, primary care, population health and trauma sciences.

The Research Technician  will be interested in dissecting the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in oral cancer formation and in understanding the regenerative potential of the oral mucosa.  The position will be assisting  with day-to-day management of the lab, assist with experiments and development of the research programme, in addition to organisation and maintenance of mouse colonies. Promotion of 3 R’s and overall awareness of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 is essential and the post-holder will be expected to take an active part in ensuring that best practice is maintained in all procedures.

The post holder is expected to provide ongoing training to new members of research staff.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor, Master’s degree or equivalent in biological or related science at minimum and have significant laboratory bench skills in molecular and cell biology techniques.   Ideally be a holder of Home Office Personal Licence or equivalent overseas certification.

The post is full-time for 36 months. Starting salary will be in the range (£27,742- £34,220 depending on experience) per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
