OSIRIS: Optimising Shared decision-making for high-Risk major Surgery
Applications are invited for a fixed term post as Research Assistant or Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London to develop AI tools to patients considering major surgery, and their clinicians, to understand the risk they face. The OSIRIS project is a collaborative between medical researchers and computer scientists, aiming to reduce ‘decision regret’
The purpose of this job is to undertake research in collaboration with and under the supervision of the investigators in order to realise the objectives of the OSIRIS Project. Applicant at Research Assistant level must have a strong academic record at undergraduate/postgraduate, with a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other relevant topics, preferably with additional relevant experience since graduation and experience of working in a collaborative inter-disciplinary setting, preferably medical.
Applicants at Postdoctoral Research Assistant level must have a PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Decision Science, AI or a related topic. All applicants are expected to demonstrate experience of working in a collaborative inter-disciplinary setting, preferably medical. Knowledge of probability and statistics is essential, with experience of the analysis of data and building statistical or AI models, particularly Bayesian networks, preferred.
This a full-time post for 3 years starting 1 March 2020 (or as soon after this date). The starting salary will be in the range £31,613-£33,324 for the Research Assistant or £34,220- £36,098 for the Postdoctoral Research Assistant inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan. Part time working or job share will be considered; please state this clearly on your application.
