Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is seeking to make the crucial appointment to the role of Assistant Director of Estates and Facilities (Strategic & Capital Development).

 

QMUL is one of the UK's leading research-focused higher education institutions. With more than 25,000 students, 4,500 staff and an annual turnover of £462m, we teach and research across a wide range of subjects in humanities and social sciences, medicine and dentistry, and science and engineering. Based in a creative and culturally diverse area of east London, we are the only London University able to offer a completely integrated residential campus, with c. 2850 student bedrooms.

The Estates and Facilities Directorate is core to the University’s strategic ambition to provide a world-class managed estate with excellent facilities for students and staff.  As part of the QMUL’s ambitious Strategy 2030, extensive focus will be placed on enhancing, growing and better utilising the QMUL estate portfolio to create a physical environment that serves as a critical enabler to an inclusive, world-class university.  To support this commitment we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Director of Estates and Facilities (Strategic & Capital Development) to play a leading role in the successful delivery of our capital development programme, which will see in excess of £750m of investment over the next decade.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading large-scale development and construction programmes and projects across diverse and complex estate portfolios.  You will have strong leadership and management skills, with experience and enthusiasm for motivating and leading internal and external team members and driving a delivery-focused culture amongst the team. 

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and driven leader with excellent stakeholder management skills and a proactive approach to team leadership.  Experience of having worked on programmes and projects with comparable characteristics to those found at QMUL such as schemes across academic, healthcare, R&D and commercial building types in live high-footfall estates environment would be particularly advantageous.
