This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with approximately 70 academic staff and 45 postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1000 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 220 PhD students. Circa 40 administrative and technical staff support the staff and students. The staff and student body are international in make-up. The School is partway through a refurbishment project that is upgrading research and teaching space. The School holds a departmental-level Bronze Athena SWAN award and is committed to equality of opportunity.
About the role
The School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on control system design and testing of wave energy converters under the supervision of Dr Guang Li.
The aim of the project is to develop control system for wave energy converters and implement the control algorithms using hardware-in-the-loop testing and wave tank testing. The successful candidate will gain first-hand experience of working with a strong research group at QMUL and, at the same time to collaborate with the University of Exeter and industrial partner.
Applicants should have, or be about to gain, a PhD or equivalent in Control Engineering or equivalent subjects. It is essential for the candidate to have expertise in Model Predictive Control and real-time control implementations.
The post is full time and fixed term for 15 months and could be extended subject to availability of further funding. The job is expected to start in July 2019. The starting salary will be £33,615 - £39,483 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, a pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
