Overview:

Queen Mary Students’ Union is looking to recruit a Graphic Designer to become part of the Communications and Marketing team. Your time will be spent supporting the development of creative marketing and communications campaigns and activities through developing high quality and on-brand print and digital solutions. Your artwork will need to excite and engage our diverse student audience, and you’ll be working as part of a team to ensure all students know about the Students’ Union and what is on offer to them.

The Students’ Union represents the 23,000 students who make up the diverse and vibrant student body at QMUL, whilst providing high quality services, activities and opportunities for all students to participate in. Our mission is “Together, we improve students’ lives”.

As part of the Communications and Marketing team you will support the delivery of a vibrant and varied range of projects for the Students’ Union’s services to ensure all of our charitable and commercial services are communicating effectively with students – you will have a crucial role in using your creativity to bring their vibrant ideas and projects to life. Our Commercial Services include a Sport & Fitness Centre, Bars, Cafes, Shops, as well as a packed programme of events. You’ll also work with our teams within the charity covering Representation & Democracy, Societies, Volunteering, Academic Advice, Employability and much more! We’re also a student-led organisation, and you’ll support our student officers to deliver a range of campaigns covering everything from Asian Heritage Month, and Black History Month to Women’s Week and our Zero Tolerance campaign, and lots in between – no day will ever be the same, and you can expect a varied workload.

We’ve also recently refreshed our brand guidelines. You’ll need to be a brand champion, ensuring all your work adheres to our brand guidelines, whilst supporting our staff team to ensure their work supports our strong visual identity as a Students’ Union.

To join us you’ll need to have an understanding of design principles, brand identity and experience using the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. You’ll also need excellent organisational skills, a positive attitude, ability to work as part of a team, and be able to work flexibly to deliver to briefs and deadlines. Our values are at the heart of what we do, and you’ll need to ensure you apply them to all your work.

This Graphic Designer role is based at our Mile End campus in East London and is a fixed-term maternity cover contract. This salary is £21,696 per annum, inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, plus University closure days and Bank Holidays, pension scheme, free gym membership at our on-campus Sport & Fitness Centre and an interest-free TFL season ticket loan.

We are also proud to be an Equal Opportunities employer and we are committed to equality of opportunity for all applicants regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability status, class or any other dimension of diversity. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates as this group is currently under-represented within the Union.
