Queen Mary Students’ Union has an exciting opportunity to join the Communications and Marketing team as Communications and Marketing Assistant. The role is essential in ensuring students at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), are aware of what the Students’ Union is, what it’s doing and how they can get involved.
The Students’ Union represents the 23,000 students who make up the diverse and vibrant student body at QMUL, whilst providing high quality services, activities and opportunities for all students to participate in. Our mission is “Together, we improve students’ lives”.
Your time will be spent promoting the opportunities available, sharing news and recent success stories and growing student engagement across our digital and social communications channels. You will be creative in your approach to excite, engage and inform our diverse student audience, will be passionate about showcasing our impact and will also be ready to provide administrative support within the Communications and Marketing team.
You will oversee the Students’ Union’s main social media accounts, produce engaging copy for a range of digital and print output and create regular student emails, news articles and features. You will also support our student photographer and videographer team who work across a range of activities and events to help capture and share what we do. We’ve recently refreshed our brand guidelines and throughout all of your written work and copy you’ll need to champion our brand and ensure the brand identity and tone of voice of the Students’ Union is maintained and enhanced.
Your work will support the delivery of a vibrant and varied range of projects and campaigns for the Students’ Union’s charitable and commercial services, helping to bring them to life. Our Commercial Services include a Sport & Fitness Centre, Bars, Cafes, Shops, as well as a packed programme of events. You’ll also work with our teams within the charity covering Representation & Democracy, Societies, Volunteering, Academic Advice, Employability and much more! We’re also a student-led organisation and you’ll support our student officers to improve their visibility and champion their wide range of campaigns, covering everything from Asian Heritage Month and Black History Month to Women’s Week and our Zero Tolerance campaign, and lots in between – no day will ever be the same, and you can expect a really varied workload.
To join us you’ll need to be able to produce copy for digital and offline communications that informs, engages and excites. You will be proficient in proofing content, writing copy and passionate about the experience social media can offer. You’ll also need excellent organisational skills to provide administrative support to the Communications and Marketing team, a positive attitude, ability to work as part of a team, and able to work flexibly to deliver a variety of projects to deadlines. The Communications and Marketing Assistant role will be based at our Mile End campus in East London and is a permanent contract. Starting salary will be £21,696 per annum, inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, plus University closure days and Bank Holidays, pension scheme, free gym membership and an interest free TFL season ticket loan.
