The Estates and Facilities Directorate at QMUL has undergone significant transformational change with the main aim of improving customer service excellence across our four sites, ensuring that key priorities for both the Directorate and Queen Mary are achieved.  As part of this change process we are looking to drive continuous improvement throughout the Directorate, exceeding the expectations of our customers and fostering excellent relationships with stakeholders and customers across the organisation.



Reporting to the Director of Estates, Facilities and Capital Development the post holder will lead all estates operations for our diverse campuses. This is senior management post that will comprise full budget management responsibility including long-term strategic planning.


You will work closely and collectively with the Director and other senior Estates and Facilities colleagues to ensure the Infrastructure and Maintenance team provides an excellent and “joined-up” customer service.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Transformational Leadership of the Estates Maintenance operation to deliver demonstrable benchmark performance
  • Long Term Infrastructure, Maintenance and Renewal planning and execution
  • Leadership and development of the Environmental Sustainability team
  • Assurance of Statutory Compliance across the built environment
  • Implementation of a modern systems architecture

You will be instrumental in ensuring the University Estate is safe, compliant, effective and efficient.


Person Specification

The successful candidate will possess proven experience and a formal qualification in an engineering related discipline, ideally to degree standard. An in-depth knowledge of managing infrastructure operations across comparable large, diverse, multi-site operation with demonstrable commercial awareness will be vital. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with high-level influencing abilities and the ability to operate successfully in a large-scale complex organisation with a broad spectrum of stakeholder groups. We are seeking an individual that has strong strategic planning skills. As well as extensive experience in the management of in-house teams in addition to outsourced providers.
