Queen Mary, University of London, is a leading university in the UK, with a breadth of excellence across Science and Engineering, Medicine, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The School of Physics and Astronomy maintains a tradition of outstanding research in ground-breaking fields. Research in the School is internationally excellent, with academic and research staff and students working in dedicated Research Centres in High Energy Experimental Particle Physics, Astrophysics, Theoretical Physics and Condensed Matter Physics.

Post Information and Requirements

The School is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Theoretical Physics. Applicants should have a strong research record within theoretical physics, in an area consonant with the current research in the Centre for Research in String Theory such as: perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of gauge and string theory, dualities in field theory and string theory, AdS/CFT and black hole physics. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in the area of supersymmetric gauge theories in diverse dimensions, including various exact techniques such as supersymmetric localisation and the superconformal index.

The successful applicant will be expected to have a PhD in Theoretical Physics (or equivalent experience) and be particularly knowledgeable in the areas specified above. The applicant will also be required to work independently, have strong analytical skills and be an effective team player.

This position will provide the successful candidate with an exceptional opportunity to become part of a highly active Research Centre focused on fertile and vibrant areas of theoretical physics. The position is full-time and fixed-term for a period of 2 years. The successful applicant is expected to start not later than 1st October 2019.
