Overview:

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film is looking to appoint to a Lecturer in German and Comparative Cultural Studies, to deliver teaching and assessment across undergraduate and, as appropriate, taught postgraduate programmes. The position is available on a Teaching & Research or Teaching & Scholarship basis depending on the relevant skills and experience of the successful candidate.

Duties under Teaching and Research:

Duties will include research, exhibition and publication, convening and teaching undergraduate modules, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, co-supervision for UG research projects and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures. You will also be expected to teach on the following modules: (1) The Opposite of Science: How to Analyse Poems’ (two parallel groups); (2) 'On the Subject of Sex II: Queen to Queer' and (3) German IIIN, Précis.

You will hold a PhD in German and Comparative Cultural Studies or have a relevant professional qualification or equivalent professional experience, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, and good organisational and communication skills are also essential. Evidence of high quality research and publications in renowned journals is expected of candidates applying for the Teaching & Research position. The post is full time and fixed term from for 6 months from 1 Jan to 30 June 2019. Starting salary will be £42,831 per annum, pro rata. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (pro rata), pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
