Overview:

The Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) Marketing and Student Recruitment Office is responsible for the marketing of QMUL’s profile and educational programmes, and the recruitment of students (home and international). The Widening Participation team, led by the Head of Outreach and Widening Participation, sits within the Marketing and Student Recruitment Office and is responsible for the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of a challenging programme of outreach activities aimed at increasing admissions from the key target groups identified in the Access and Participation Plan. The Head of Outreach and Widening Participation is responsible for ensuring that all widening participation activities support QMUL’s Strategic Plan, and are congruent with overall student recruitment objectives.

QMUL is committed to enhancing its programme of outreach work, and the Head of Outreach and Widening Participation will take a lead in developing this. The post holder will be responsible for managing the planning and delivery of a range of established outreach activities, including managing relationships with feeder and partner schools, overseeing summer schools programme and representing QMUL externally. S/he will make a significant contribution to the development and delivery of QMUL’s UK Student Recruitment and Widening Participation work as well as taking a lead on regulatory aspects of the Access and Participation Plan – including drafting reports and prepare submissions.

The successful candidate will be commercially astute, demonstrate experience of managing and motivating staff, and have excellent communication, networking and organisational skills. S/he will have authoritative knowledge of current issues around UK higher education and widening participation and proven experience of recruiting students across the UK. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the proven ability to manage multiple projects to tight deadlines.

This post involves work with young people under the age of 18, and the post holder is required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

The post is a full time (35 hours per week) permanent appointment. Starting salary will be in the range of £46,489 - £51,899 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
