The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary, University of London is seeking to appoint a Systems Officer (Research) to manage systems administration in Research and Teaching in the department.


The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of systems provision and requirements in the School, ensuring that they are realised in an orderly manner. A significant amount of the post holder’s time will be spent supporting projects associated with the School’s research groups' activities in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. 


Working closely with the IT Services team embedded in the School, along with academics and researchers the post holder will also be responsible for designing hardware and software solutions for research and teaching, for advising researchers on equipment and platform purchases and for information security relating to computer systems and networks within EECS.


To apply, you should have substantial evidence of Linux and Windows systems administration skills and have technical programming skills such as Python, Java, C, Perl, PHP or Matlab.  The ability to reconcile client needs with technical, financial and administrative constraints is essential, as well as a good understanding of the ethics of data capture, management and storage.  Previous work in an HE research environment is desirable and experience of using modern software development and versioning environments would be an advantage.


The post is full time and permanent and is available immediately. The starting salary will be in the range of £46,489 - £51,899 per annum inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, pension scheme and an interest-free season ticket loan.
