Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant position on a project on “Broadband Graphene THz Detectors”.

The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) is an exciting and dynamic environment with a research portfolio of £42M.  In REF2014, 91% of the School’s Computer Science submitted outputs were rated 3* or 4*, with 99% for Electronic Engineering.  The School has more than 70 research active academic staff, about 60 post-doctoral researchers and about 220 PhD students. Six academics hold prestigious research fellowships from organizations such as EPSRC and the Royal Academy of Engineering. We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to participate in an European funded project on graphene. The research will be undertaken under the supervision of Professor Yang Hao. The requirement of graphene as an enabling technology for the manipulation of THz waves, as an intermediate step towards development of either all-graphene or graphene-hybrid material multifunctional integrated systems. The first step of the project will be to come out with a design scheme for specific required configuration. The second work step is to physically validate the predictions of the down-selected prototypes through manufacturing and testing them in laboratory environment.

The ideal candidate should possess an excellent knowledge of antenna analysis and design, Graphene, 2D materials, multifunctional devices (particularly those indicated above), THz electronics and photonic devices. In addition, applicants will have at least good skills in analytical/numerical modeling, and programming ability in one or more of: C/C++, Python, Matlab.

Also the ideal candidate will have experience in Graphene structure/device modelling and modelling and/or implementation of multifunctional structures

The candidate should have a PhD (awarded or reasonably expected to be awarded within 3 months) or equivalent degree in Electric and/or Electronic Engineering before taking up the post; good communication skills are also welcome.

The post is full time, fixed term appointment for 12 months or until 30 June 2019 (whichever is the shorter). The starting salary will be £32,956 - £36,677, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
