The School of Geography at Queen Mary University of London are looking to appoint a Lecturer in Physical Geography for a three year fixed-term contract. The successful applicant will have a high-quality research profile (consistent with career stage) in an area that complements, rather than replicates, our existing research strengths in either past climates and environments or landscape and ecosystem dynamics. You will also demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality teaching across multiple areas on our taught programmes, including contributions to UK or overseas field courses and introductory quantitative methods training. You will be willing and able to develop a new final-year undergraduate module on climate science or issues of contemporary climate change. A significant number of our modules are team-taught, and so you must be able to work flexibly as an individual and team member. You will also be expected to undertake appropriate administrative and pastoral duties.

Applicants should have a PhD, (or a doctorate under examination by September 2018), and be developing a reputation for internationally excellent research in Physical Geography or Environmental Science, together with teaching experience and expertise appropriate to their career stage at undergraduate and taught postgraduate level. The ability to communicate effectively, good organisational skills and a flexible and co-operative approach to colleagues, are also essential.

The School of Geography at QMUL has a strong international reputation for theoretically informed and empirically grounded research, and was ranked 5th in REF2014 for its world-leading and internationally-excellent research outputs. The School operates within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The School is committed to Athena SWAN principles and currently holds an Athena SWAN Bronze award.

The post is full time and fixed term for three years and will start from 1 September 2018. Starting salary will be £40,865 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
