Overview:

Queen Mary, University of London is one of the UK’s leading higher education research focused institutes. With around 4,000 staff and 18,000 students, Queen Mary has four main campuses spanning Central and East London and delivers world class degree programmes and research covering a wide range of subjects as a multi-faculty institution.

An Infrastructure Software Analyst is required by the Data Centre Services group within IT Services to help maintain and support essential college IT. The Data Centre Services group will host all of the colleges’ non-research server hardware and common infrastructure software and is currently responsible for over 900 servers which provide a diverse range of infrastructure services to staff and students.

This is a challenging position for a bright, motivated and enthusiastic person with a service oriented ethos. The successful candidate will contribute, as part of an Infrastructure Software team, in the operations and development of web, email, authentication, identity management and other software services.

Candidates should have a degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related subject and have some exposure to of a modern mixed Windows and/or Linux server environment. An ideal candidate would possess the following skillset:

•Windows general systems administration.

•Active Directory and cloud services such as Office 365.

•A basic technical understanding of email.

•An understanding of the operation of a basic web server such as IIS or Apache.

•Additional Linux skills and the ability to work in a mixed OS environment would be an advantage.

•A good general understanding of general protocols and standards TCP/IP, HTTP, HTML, DNS and other common network protocols and how they relate to web services.

•A working understanding of virtualization VMware or KVM.

•A team player.

•Good customer service skills.

•Incident triage and analysis skills and experience.

The post is full time and permanent. Salary is on our Grade 4 scale and will be in the range £32,956 - £38,709 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (with an additional 4 days Christmas closure), defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
