We are seeking an Information Support Assistant to work in the libraries of Queen Mary Library Services. The post will be based in our Library at Mile End, but has the expectation of cross-site working at any of our 3 sites, possibly at short notice.


Information Support Assistants form part of the first-line support in Library Services and take a lead on promoting our high standards of customer service to university members and visitors. Your typical day will involve a variety of scheduled tasks in any of the Library Services managed spaces. Your duties will not only involve staffing of service points, but also monitoring of facilities and equipment, return of reading materials to the shelves and generally providing help at any point of need in physical and digital learning spaces. A willingness to be flexible in an environment of long opening hours to support the needs of their diverse population is welcomed.


We aim to actively support staff in their post with regular training, cross-site working, and opportunities for external visits etc. during the year, fostering team spirit, ensuring familiarity with resources and facilities, and promoting ideas for service development

The post-holder must have a confident manner, education to at least GCSE or equivalent level (including Maths and English), good communication and basic IT skills. Previous experience in a service environment is essential and library experience would be an advantage though not essential.

The post-holder will be required to work one public holiday per academic year and working hours may not be the same as normal working hours.   This post is part-time at 28hrs per week and permanent.  Salary range is £21,271-£26,035 pro rata.  Other benefits include 30 day annual leave pro rata and defined benefit pension scheme.

Information Support Assistant

Working Weeks per year = 36 weeks plus 1 week off between Christmas and New Year.


ME term-time (36weeks)

Monday - Wednesday 13:30-21:30  (7 hours with 1hr unpaid break)

Sunday 12:45-20:15                         (7 hours with 30mins unpaid break)


Location: Mile End Library for ME term-time (also West Smithfield and Whitechapel Libraries as required by the needs of the service).

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
