Job profile

Queen Mary is one of the UK’s leading global universities, highly rated for its teaching and learning, research and innovation, and wide-ranging public engagement. We are a Russell Group university, situated in the heart of the East End of London, with a history dating back to 1785 and with staff and students from over 160 countries.

The quality of research and innovation activity undertaken by our academics is outstanding. QMUL is ranked 42nd in the world based on the frequency with which research outputs by our academics are cited (THE World Rankings 2017) and the Research Excellence Framework 2014 ranked us fifth in the UK in terms of the proportion of research outputs that were world-leading or internationally excellent.

We are looking to recruit a new Director of Research Services to develop, drive and deliver QMUL’s research strategy, working closely with the Vice Principal (Research).  The role will drive transformation in research services to facilitate growth in research and related income and engage with the university's knowledge transfer, intellectual property and business engagement activities. This will involve working effectively across the institution, liaising with members of the Senior Executive and forming strong links with our academic Schools and Institutes to redefine how research is supported and enhanced. Forming links with key external organisations will also be vital.

The postholder will be a member of the Professional Services Leadership Team and as such will be expected to contribute to wider QMUL objectives and initiatives.

The Successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the research funding landscape and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.  You will be an experienced leader and influencer within higher education or industry with strong research and commercial experience. You will also have a strong understanding of research integrity and governance.
