Overview:

The Careers & Enterprise Team develops the employability of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) students and graduates by helping them to find and prepare for work. As well as providing a range of information, advice and guidance support services, the Team delivers a suite of employer-led programmes to give students opportunities to develop skills, networks, labour market knowledge and work experience.

The post holder will be part of the Employer Engagement Team, providing a dedicated service for undergraduates and postgraduates from the School of Economics and Finance (SEF), seeking to improve their employment prospects.

QMUL’s School of Economics & Finance is a recognised centre of excellence in both research and teaching. Academic staff are experts in their fields, and their research has impact on policy-making and the public debate. The School offers a range of undergraduate degrees, which are regularly ranked at the top of UK league tables. Graduate education in the School is organised around several Masters programmes and a structured doctoral programme. The student and staff community is diverse and vibrant. The School has recently moved into QMUL’s flagship Graduate Centre.

Reporting to the Careers & Enterprise Employer Engagement Manager, the postholder will be located part of the week in the School and part of the week in the Careers & Enterprise Centre with the rest of the Employer Engagement Team.

The post holder will initiate and build relationships with a range of employers and SEF alumni for the purposes of sourcing internship opportunities for students (both undergraduate and postgraduate). The post holder will coordinate the full internship cycle, including proactively negotiating opportunities, marketing these to students, running selection processes and gathering feedback from employers and students.

The post holder will also engage employers (including alumni) in delivering employer-led events for the School, including panel discussions, employer insight days, workshops, and in-curricular sessions. These activities will be organised, marketed and delivered in partnership with the School’s Careers Consultants.

The successful candidate will have experience of successfully initiating and maintaining client relationships (in or out of the Higher Education sector). The role requires strong influencing and organisation skills, tenacity and an interest in helping students build their employability.

The role is full-time at 35 hours per week and is a permanent appointment from January 2018. Salary will be in the range of £32,956 to £38,709 per year, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and defined benefit pension scheme.
