Department: Student Services - Careers & Enterprise
Salary: £32,956 - £38,709 per annum (Grade 4)
Date posted: 15-Dec-2017
Closing date: 14-Jan-2018
The Careers & Enterprise Team develops the employability of Queen Mary University of London students and graduates by helping them to find and prepare for work. As well as providing a range of information, advice and guidance support services, the Team delivers a suite of programmes to give students opportunities to develop skills, networks, labour market knowledge and work experience.
We have recently been awarded funding from Sir John Cass’s Foundation to create a second strand of our successful Career Taster Scheme. The Career Taster Scheme gives QMUL students the opportunity to visit up to four employer sites, undertaking business case studies, hearing key note speakers and networking with professionals. Students completing the Scheme have had a ‘taste’ of four very different sectors and can consequently make a more informed career choice. This new strand of the Career Taster Scheme will be suitable for delivery as a module in the Queen Mary curriculum, enabling even more students to take part. The new ‘QTaster Module’ will be designed and trialled in 17/18 with a view to in-curricular delivery in 18/19.
The Programme Coordinator will reshape the Career Taster Scheme into a format suitable for in-curricular delivery, with support from Educational Development colleagues on development of the assessment component. The Coordinator will then lead a trial of the new module, and evaluate this, before coordinating delivery of the module in the 18/19 curriculum and beyond. The postholder will coordinate the full cycle of module delivery, including sourcing employer hosts, engaging and selecting students, administrating the module and monitoring and reporting progress against targets. The new module forms part of a suite of modules offered to students under Queen Mary’s new QMUL Model – an innovative and ambitious cross-curricular programme.
Located within Queen Mary’s Careers & Enterprise Centre with the rest of the Programmes Team, this post will report to the Programmes Manager.
The successful candidate will have experience of initiating and successfully maintaining client relationships (in or out of the Higher Education sector). The role requires strong influencing and organisation skills, tenacity and an interest in helping students build their employability.
The role is full-time at 35 hours per week and is a permanent appointment from January 2018. Salary will be in the range of £32,956 to £38,709 per year, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and defined benefit pension scheme.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
