Two Lectureships or Senior Lectureships in Physical Geography / Environmental Science (permanent posts)
Applications are invited for two permanent posts (Lecturer / Senior Lecturer) in Physical Geography/Environmental Science in the world-leading School of Geography at Queen Mary University of London. We are seeking to appoint two high calibre scientists who will contribute to and enhance the research and teaching activities of the School’s Earth Surface Science research theme in one or more of the broad fields of catchment and river science; biogeosciences; and geo-archives of environmental change. At least one successful applicant is likely to have expertise in geo-spatial science.
Applicants should have, or be due to submit, a PhD and have a developing reputation for internationally excellent research in Physical Geography / Environmental Science. Applicants should have teaching experience and expertise appropriate to their career stage at undergraduate and taught postgraduate level.
The School of Geography at QMUL has a strong international reputation for theoretically informed and empirically grounded research, and was ranked 5th in REF2014 for its world-leading and internationally-excellent research outputs. The School’s world-class Laboratory and Field Suite supports research carried out by staff and students concerned with environmental systems, their processes, and their interactions in the present and past, as well as in an uncertain future. With the support and expertise of laboratory technical staff, successful applicants will benefit from our world-class facilities, including: a wide range of equipment for physical and chemical analysis of environmental samples; an imaging and microscopy suite, including a computed tomography system for 3-d reconstruction; a river laboratory for small-scale physical modelling; state-of-the art field equipment; and a geospatial computing laboratory.
The School operates within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with strong research and teaching collaborations with the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
The School is committed to Athena SWAN principles and holds an Athena SWAN Bronze award.
The posts are full time, starting from 1st September 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting salary will be in the range £40,865 to £50,881 per annum, depending on experience and inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, a defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
