Queen Mary’s Marketing and Student Recruitment Office is responsible for the marketing of Queen Mary’s profile and educational programmes, and the recruitment of students (home and international). The Widening Participation team, led by the Head of Outreach and Widening Participation, sits within the Marketing and Student Recruitment Office and is responsible for the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of a challenging programme of outreach activities aimed at increasing admissions from the key target groups identified in Queen Mary’s Widening Participation Strategy and Access Agreement. The Head of Outreach and Widening Participation is responsible for ensuring that all widening participation activities support Queen Mary’s Strategic Plan, and are congruent with Queen Mary’s overall student recruitment objectives.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced Widening Participation Officer, who will be responsible for developing, planning and delivering a range of outreach activities to widen access to courses across the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The post holder will work with the relevant academic schools to develop the Faculty’s approach to widening participation, and ensure that this aligns with QMUL’s Widening Participation Strategy and Access Agreement. They will develop and deliver new activities to Year 7 – 13 students from target schools, whilst leading on established projects including an Engineering Spring School and Pathways to Coding programme. The post holder will be based in the Widening Participation team, but will spend part of their time working in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
The successful candidate will need to be self-motivated, well organised and flexible. They will have experience of developing and delivering outreach activities to school and sixth-form college students and their parents and carers. Knowledge of the UK higher education system, including student finance and the UCAS admissions system, is essential. The successful candidate will also have excellent communication and networking skills and will be an enthusiastic team worker, with the ability to manage a busy workload.
The post is available on a permanent full time basis with a salary range £36,677 - £43,152 per annum annum inclusive of London Allowance. This post involves work with young people under the age of 18, and the post holder is required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and defined benefit pension scheme.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
