The School of Business and Management (SBM) seeks to recruit an outstanding researcher and teacher to a lectureship or senior lectureship in either operations or global supply chain management. Applicants for the senior lectureship will be established academics with strong publication records, while applicants for the lectureship will be at least at post-doctoral level. This post offers an opportunity to shape the school’s intellectual agenda in operations management in a rapidly growing and distinctive management School.

School of Business and Management (SBM)
The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years. We presently have around 80 academic staff, with more appointments in process. We have over 900 undergraduate Business Studies students plus approximately 600 students taking business in combination with other degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have around 500 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme of 58 doctoral students.
We are a distinctive School that takes a humanities and social science led approach to our scholarship. We are a non-departmentalised school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.
SBM recently re-committed to our core purpose, that is, to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We organise our activities thematically, cross-cutting traditional divisions between disciplinary departments.
Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Operations or Global Supply Chain Management
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the capacity to research and publish at an internationally excellent level or higher (at least 3 in the recent REF) in the broad area of operations and supply chains within business and management. Candidates for the lectureship should have a completed doctorate (or have a doctorate under examination) by September 2017 and be able to demonstrate the capacity for international-level research achievement. For the senior lectureship the successful applicant will already be an established academic and be expected to have a strong publication record. An experience of, and willingness to undertake, administrative roles would also be desirable at the senior lecturer level.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching on our MSc and undergraduate programmes in areas such as operations management, supply chain management, global value chains and production networks, sustainable operations, ethical supply chains and/or the global operational context. It would be desirable, but not essential, if applicants were able to demonstrate evidence of research activities that align with the interests of existing SBM academic staff, particularly on: contextualising operations within institutional frameworks, the international division of labour and international development, the shifting economics of borders, and challenges to the existing trade regime. We would also highly value experience of grant and contract research, particularly projects that have demonstrable impacts beyond academia.

Starting salary will be in the range £40,182 - £50,030 / £52,878 – £59,104 per annum inclusive of London Allowance and include 30 days annual leave, USS pension scheme membership, and interest-free travel season ticket loan.
