The Widening Participation team, led by the Head of Outreach and Widening Participation, sits within the Directorate of Marketing and Communications, and is responsible for the planning and delivery of a challenging programme of outreach activities aimed at increasing admissions from the key target groups identified in Queen Mary University of London’s (QMUL’s) Widening Participation Strategy and Access Agreement.

The post of Widening Participation Officer is essential to the work of the team and involves planning and delivering a programme of outreach activities with targeted schools and colleges. These include primary school outreach activities and a Year 12 coaching programme. There is a particular focus on providing clear information, advice and guidance on student finance, tuition fees and QMUL’s student support package. The post also involves the coordination of all aspects of QMUL’s work to support looked-after children and care leavers.

The post of Widening Participation Officer is a permanent full-time job share. We require a job-share partner to work 0.4 FTE - 14 hours per week, ideally on Wednesdays and Thursdays or Thursdays and Fridays. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, well organised and flexible. They will have experience of developing and delivering outreach activities to school and sixth-form college students and their parents and carers. Knowledge of the UK higher education system, including knowledge of student finance and the UCAS admissions system, is essential. The successful candidate will also have excellent communication, networking and organisational skills and will be an enthusiastic team worker, with the ability to manage a busy workload. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as is the proven ability to manage projects to tight deadlines

This post involves work with young people under the age of 18, and the post holder is required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

Starting salary will be in the range of £36,064 to £42,431 per annum (pro rata), inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (pro rata), defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required, this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
