About the Role

We are seeking a lab manager to manage the activity of the Wolfson Institute’s Molecular Epidemiology laboratory, under the direction of Dr Belinda Nedjai. Current research aims include:

•             To facilitate development of new biomarkers for cancer screening and prevention approaches.

•             To apply new discoveries (NGS, epigenetics and multiomics) in basic cancer biology to cancer screening and prevention.

The post-holder will ensure that the laboratory is run effectively and efficiently, in line with Good Clinical and Laboratory Practice, whilst supervising the work of scientific officers and doctoral students in the lab. You will carry out administrative work to support research activity, including supporting applications to various funding bodies and overseeing all expenditure on laboratory and office supplies. You will also act as Health & Safety officer, implementing all aspects of Health & Safety policy in the lab.

About You

Applicants must have experience in Lab management. You should have experience in Health & Safety regulations, implementing all aspects of Health & Safety in the laboratory areas and ensuring compliance to relevant policies, procedures and legislation and reporting of occurrences and accidents. You must have a PhD in molecular biology or a related field, together with at least 5 years of experience in basic molecular biological and/or NGS techniques. You must also have excellent project and staff management skills, budgeting and a thorough understanding of Good Clinical and Laboratory Practice.

The Centre for cancer Prevention is at the forefront of research internationally into the prevention and control of cancer.  We have particularly active programmes of research studying breast, cervical, colorectal and prostate cancer prevention, cancer screening and statistical methods for clinical trials and epidemiology.

Benefits

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square Campus in London. It is a full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 12 months, with an immediate start. Starting salary will be in the range of grade 5 £38,084 - £41,299 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and staff pension scheme.
