The research group/centre

The Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology (Centre leader Professor Pitzalis) is part of the William Harvey Research Institute.

We are recruiting a full-time Technician to join the Musculoskeletal Regenerative Medicine group (led by Prof Dell’Accio) to help understanding how a growth factor that we have discovered causes regeneration of the articular cartilage in osteoarthritis and pain relief. The project involves extensive molecular analysis, cell biology and work with animal models and transgenics. This project is funded by a large and ambitious grant co-funded by MRC and Arthritis Research UK and is in collaboration with the University of Nottingham, Oxford, and the Francis Crick Institute.

Our group is focused on the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of joint homeostasis and tissue regeneration within the joint.

The project involves sophisticated cell and molecular biology and state of the art animal models of osteoarthritis and especially tissue regeneration. There is therefore a great opportunity to learn rare and valuable skills and expertise in a truly exciting and international environment as well as to take part to a truly exciting project.

The candidate

It is essential that the candidate has good skills in histological and immunohistochemical techniques ideally with skeletal tissues including bone and cartilage. The candidate must also have good cell and molecular biology skills and being comfortable with working with mice.

The candidate will be primarily based at the WHRI, Charterhouse Square.

The candidate should have a degree, good interpersonal and communication skills, and interact positively with project co-workers.

The post is full time and on a fixed term contract of 12 months. The starting salary will be in the range of £22,212 - £25,685 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Part-time will also be considered.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
