Centre for Cancer Biomarkers and Biotherapeutics


Applications are sought for an Animal Technician to assist and provide technical support for research within the Barts Cancer Institute in the Centre for Cancer Biomarkers and Biotherapeutics, specifically for in vivo animal-based research and preclinical imaging. The post will also include the collection, processing and organisation of tissue samples for the animal experiments done in the Institute. The post-holder will be expected to be responsible for data entry on the samples. The post will be based in the Centre for Cancer Biomarkers and Biotherapeutics, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.


Essential requirements for this post include NVQ level experience/equivalent in Animal Technology, and a strong background in in vivo mouse experimentation especially cancer models. The post holder must possess a Personal licence - Modules E1 & L, PIL A & B, PIL C and evidence of recent and up to date training and competency in regulated animal procedures.

Experience in preclinical imaging (e.g. SPECT, PET, MRI and ultrasound) would be an advantage. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team and maintain good laboratory records are also essential.


The post is full time until March 31st 2022.  Starting salary will be in the range £34,220 - £40,194 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, pension scheme, an interest-free season ticket loan and family-friendly working.
