About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a technician to join the lab of Dr Neil McCarthy in the Centre for Immunobiology at The Blizard Institute. This position will focus on human intestinal γδ T-cells and their role in gut barrier protection against microbial infection/inflammation, aiming to help pharmaceutical companies develop new types of immunotherapy for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

About You

Previous experience working on inflammation of mucosal tissues, able to demonstrate an ability to learn new research methods and apply their previous experience, which will preferably include a range of immunofluorescence/histochemistry/in situ hybridization techniques (prior knowledge of RNAscope methodology will also be advantage). Successful candidate will need to coordinate routinely with clinical colleagues in order to obtain essential patient samples, hence good communication skills and the ability to organize and motivate others will be crucial. Candidate will also be required to assist in other areas of research interest within the wider group, so an enthusiasm to cooperate with others to advance a range of ongoing projects will be highly valued.

The Blizard Institute at Bart’s and The London School of Medicine (part of Queen Mary University of London, QMUL) has an international reputation for excellence in fundamental, translational, and clinical research.
This particular project will focus on γδ T-cells in host–pathogen interactions and inflammation of human gut.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 12 months, with an immediate start. The starting salary will be Grade 3, in the range of £27,742-£29,995 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
