About the Role

This fixed term role sits in our well established and highly regarded Disability and Dyslexia Service. The postholder will act as one of the first points of contact for Queen Mary’s 3,000 disabled students; the successful candidate will be responsible for agreeing and implementing reasonable adjustments and securing access to support mechanisms such as the Disabled Students’ Allowances. It will also entail close collaboration with other university departments, particular our Schools and Institutes, as well as an array of external suppliers and agencies, e.g. specialist mentoring suppliers, Student Finance England, and needs assessment centres. The role will also involve working with our Assistant Disability Adviser to recruit human support workers, e.g. note-takers, as part of our anticipatory duty to disabled students.

About You

We are seeking someone with a proven background in supporting Higher Education students with an array of disabilities, including specific learning differences such as dyslexia and mental health conditions, preferably within a Higher Education Institution.

About the Department

The Disability and Dyslexia Service is Queen Mary University of London’s chief vehicle for the implementation of support, including reasonable adjustments, for more than 3,000 disabled students, including those with specific learning differences such as dyslexia, and mental health diagnoses. Along with the Advice and Counselling Service and the Student Life team, the service makes up the Student Wellbeing division of the Student and Academic Services directorate.

The post is based at our Mile End campus in London. It is a fixed term appointment until 3rd June 2022. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £38,655 - £45,479 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
