Overview:

A vacancy has arisen within the Teaching Services Team to provide student support for queries relating to undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes in the School

You should have experience of dealing effectively with people face-to-face with a customer-oriented approach and have a knowledge and understanding of the work practices, processes and procedures relevant to student support. You must be empathic and professional when dealing with students and have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality of opportunity and to dealing with diversity sensitively and fairly.

This post requires that you can work both independently and as part of a team and you will need to have a high level of interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in person, on phone and by emails.

The post is within the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences (SBBS), home to around 80 academic staff, 29 administrative staff and 21 technicians. This role is part of the Professional Services Career Family, which support functions across multiple sites and provide the infrastructure and support for all our research, teaching and learning activities.

At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable. Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

We offer competitive salaries, pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum, a season ticket loan scheme, staff networks and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment and is available immediately.  The starting salary will be in the range of £28,208 - £34,733 per annum (Grade 3), inclusive of London Allowance.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability.

We have policies to support our staff throughout their careers, including arrangements for those who wish to work flexibly or on a job share basis, and we provide support for those returning from long-term absence. We particularly welcome applications from under-represented (BAME) groups, and from women in all stages of life, including pregnancy and maternity leave. We also encourage men to apply for this position to balance the gender distribution in our administrative team.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Ms Shaheda Batha at s.batha@qmul.ac.uk.  Details about the School can be found at https://www.qmul.ac.uk/sbbs/

Candidates are kindly requested to upload a CV and covering letter only. Certificates, references and personal documents should not be provided at this stage.

The closing date for applications is 3 October 2021.   Interviews are expected to be held shortly thereafter.
