About the Role

As we age the levels of skin derived lipids decrease leading to dry skin. Through our research we have identified a mechanism for the loss of lipids in ageing skin. Using a screening system developed in my lab have identified naturally occurring compounds that can reverse this mechanism. We propose to test these compound in 3D organotypic models of aged human skin to confirm they can restore skin lipids in aged skin

Working with colleagues within the Centre for Cell Biology and Cutaneous Research, the project will test the newly identified compounds in both 2D and 3D models of aged skin. This will lead to a greater understanding of how these compounds alter skin biology and identify if any can restore skin lipids in models of aged skin.

Towards these goals, a number of technologies will be utilized including high-throughput imaging and the generation of 3D organotypic skin models.

About You

The post is applicable to a postdoctoral researcher with a PhD in a relevant area (e.g. Cell Biology, Cell Signaling). A background in keratinocyte biology, microscopy and generating 3D skin models is highly desirable.

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.
