Salary: £38,084 - £44,807 per annum (pro-rata) (Grade 5)
Location: Mile End
Date posted: 13-Sep-2021

About the Role
This key role is based within the university’s Disability and Dyslexia Service. The postholder will act as one of the first points of contact for Queen Mary’s 1,000 students with mental health as a declared disability; the successful candidate will be responsible for agreeing and implementing reasonable adjustments and securing access to support mechanisms such as the Disabled Student’s Allowance. It will also entail close collaboration with our Advice and Counselling Service, as well as an array of external suppliers and agencies, e.g. specialist mentoring suppliers, Student Finance England, and needs assessment centres.
We are seeking someone with a background in supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties, ideally in a Higher Education setting. A professional background in a mental health field such as Counselling, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Psychiatric/Mental Health Social Work, or Occupational Therapy would be a distinct advantage. The successful candidate will also be supporting students with autistic spectrum conditions.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The Disability and Dyslexia Service is Queen Mary University of London’s chief vehicle for the implementation of support, including reasonable adjustments, for more than 3,000 disabled students, including those with specific learning differences such as dyslexia and mental health diagnoses. Along with the Advice and Counselling Service and the Student Life team the service makes up the Student Wellbeing division of the Student and Academic Services directorate.
About Queen Mary
At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.
Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.
We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.
The post is based at our Mile End campus in London, although the successful candidate will need to travel to other campuses as required. It is a full time, permanent appointment. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £38,084 - £44,807 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes.
