About the Role
The Head Chef is a senior post and reports directly to the Executive Chef. The post holder has overall responsibility for the development and production of all hospitality and retail food offer outlets across all campuses, events and functions including, guest dinners, weddings, conferences, academic functions and business meetings in conjunction with the executive chef and junior team. The purpose of the role is to grow the reputation of Queen Mary, through innovation in the food offer, liaising closely with the hospitality manager to continuously improve the quality of the offering, modernising the styles of service and improving profitability through control of GP%. Hospitality pre COVID had grown significantly with income rising to over £2m per annum, forecast to increase to over £3m in the next 18-24 months. Also projects for all our retail outlets to be transformed over the next 5 years have just begun and will enrich student experience through food and service throughout the business.
As an active weddings venue this role will be critical in delivering these events successfully as well as our student open days and residences support functions which can fall over the weekends. Contract is a 5 over 7 can inc some weekends.
Your key skills will lie in delivering quality catering for large high profile hospitality events and the retail offer, you will have significant experience in managing staff and operational delivery across multiple sites. You will have good knowledge of food purchasing and IT systems related to this and food safety and health and safety will be of paramount importance to you. You will have the communication skills to be as effective with our customers as you are with your team and colleagues.
The post is based at the Mile End campus with work at all campuses. It is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment. The starting salary will be in the range of £38,084 - £44,807 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
