The role

The School of Physics and Astronomy at Queen Mary University of London is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work with Prof. David Berman at the interface between theoretical physics and machine learning. This position will provide the successful candidate with an exceptional opportunity to become part of a highly active Research Centre focused on one of the most fertile and vibrant areas of theoretical physics.


Successful applicants will be expected to have a PhD in Theoretical Physics (or equivalent experience) and be particularly knowledgeable of recent progress and activity in the machine learning area. Applicants will be required to work independently, have strong analytical skills and also be able to work effectively as part of a research team. Applicants should have a strong research track record within theoretical physics and be experienced with the ideas and methods of machine learning.

Note, Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London.  It is full time (37.5 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 1 year, with an expected start date of 1st of October 2021. The starting salary will be in Grade 4, ranging from £34,220 to £40,194 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
